Stan Burdick has been collecting cartoon memorabilia for over 50 years. Stan got his start a long, long time ago by winning several cartoon contests in an early boys' magazine titled Open Road for Boys. Later he co-edited and co-published American Squaredance magazine, which helded to home his drawing and writing skills.
In 1998, wishing to share his collection with the public, he opened the Hague Cartoon Museum in Hague, New York (10 miles south of Ticonderoga). The museum remained in Hague for seven summers until the building housing the museum was slated for demolition in 2003.
Additional Room Added. Our expansion is now complete. We now have two rooms in which to show off the more than 600 framed cartoons plus many panels and exhibits. One can't see it all in an hour.
Special Displays. Both old and new displays are on hand to study. Some of these are: Charles Dana Gibson and his beautiful Girl Art, Thomas Nast and How His Cartoons Destroyed the Corrupt Tammany Gang; Novice artists display, Stan's Editorial Cartoons, Animation Art, Art of Disney, Fantasy Art with Frazetta, Illusions and Flip Faces, 100 Years of the Comics, Winning Women's Suffrage through Cartoons, How Editorial cartoons are Created, Animal Drawings and Comic Book Over the Years. Veteran "funny page" fans will see the "oldies" including Little Orphan Annie, Tarzan, the Katzenjammer Kids, and Prince Valiant, Monsters loon in the Fantasy Art section. All of this delightful display is the result of over 50 years of collecting by director Stan Burdick.
Reference Library. There are close to 300 books of cartoon reference in our library. Students of the comics, both young and older, can spend time in the Book Nook to research your favorite comic characters, even if they are 100 years old. Young artists can find many "how to" books.
Group Tours to the Museum. We want to entertain more groups of teachers, students, club leaders, senior citizens. Ideal size for groups is from 10 to 20.
We'll Come to Your Group. Our director, Stan, will travel to present a cartoon show to your school or club group within a reasonable distance at an appropriate time.
