Fashion Institute of Technology
Fashion Institute of Technology
FIT is fascinating. We are a public institution of higher education with ties to private industry designed to benefit our students. We have big city pizazz and high-end sophistication. But we boast a safe campus and a real-world mindset. We are the crossroads between commerce and creativity.
FIT is fashion. We are also design, fine arts, packaging, computer animation. We are technology, and also marketing, advertising, merchandising, production. And more. Our diverse programming has grown out of a rich history. Our Institutional Advancement is based on a clear mission. Our campus location and facilities are here to serve our college community.
The Fashion Institute of Technology Institutional mission statement:
The Fashion Institute of Technology prepares students for professional excellence in design, fashion, and business by providing the premier educational experience that fosters creativity, career focus, and a global perspective.
To fulfill its mission:
FIT develops students’ aesthetic, intellectual, analytical, and technological abilities through programs that integrate theory and practice. FIT offers students a rigorous and innovative curriculum taught by faculty with outstanding academic and industry experience. FIT is committed to a broad-based education in the liberal arts. FIT exposes students to their chosen professions through internships, guest lectures, industry-sponsored projects, and other opportunities for experiential learning. FIT promotes student growth and self-development through student support services, programs, and activities. FIT provides students with a multifaceted educational experience, which incorporates the vast resources of New York City. FIT, an urban institution of the State University of New York, provides an education of exceptional quality and affordability.
In the past six decades, the expanding global fashion industry, New York City, and FIT have experienced dramatic and fundamental changes. FIT continues to change as it remains true to its mission, offering students with talent and drive the chance to make their mark, regardless of their background or financial means.
This mission, however, provides significant fiscal challenges that we hope to meet with your help.
The Educational Foundation still serves as an advisory and fundraising body to FIT. The special relationship between the college and foundation creates valuable opportunities to share knowledge and experience. Board members, who include today's leaders and innovators, serve on panels and appear as special lecturers, enabling students to meet outstanding representatives from the fields of industrial production, labor, design, merchandising, and the arts.

Athletics and recreation
FIT has full-sized gymnasiums and locker facilities in the sub-basement of the A and B buildings. Sports activities
include basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, and intramural sports, as well as individual fitness and dance classes.
A fully-equipped fitness center for student use is located in the B Building in the sub-basement, BX12. Certified fitness trainers are provided during hours of operation.
