Studio Art Centers International
The mission of Studio Art Centers International is to provide excellent studio and academic classes at undergraduate and graduate university level in overseas study. SACI also aims, by focusing on integrating students into Italian society and opening up Italian skills and resources to them, to help creative persons maximize their foreign study experience.
In order to fulfill this goal, SACI provides the best possible faculty, administration staff, facilities, and curriculum, to enable students to realize their full potential during study abroad, which can be a catalyst and inspiration of key importance for an artist or a scholar.
Studio Art Centers International was founded over 30 years ago as a US study-abroad program in Florence, particularly designed for emerging and serious artists.
Founder’s statement
SACI has the good fortune to own the historic Palazzo dei Cartelloni, situated in the center of Florence. Fully equipped with studios and classrooms, and a beautiful garden, it provides an ideal center for students to integrate into the city and learn about the resources of Florence. SACI has a very active cultural life for its students with over 125 field trips each Fall and Spring semester and numerous field trips each Late Spring and Summer term, lectures, concerts, film nights, open drawing sessions, and gallery openings of artists from all over the world - all of which are fully covered by tuition.
Nothing is totally new, and all efforts are based on what came before - and so it is with SACI. There were other places to study art "overseas," and most were programs connected with US university study abroad structures. They were usually dependent on the dedication of art faculty from the "home" school or found transient locations inside existing European institutions or ventures.
Description of Housing
In accordance with Italian law, all apartment contracts are duly registered with authorities and the names of occupants are filed each term with the local police. SACI apartments also meet health and safety standards and are covered by fire and third party liability insurance. Please note that overnight guests are not allowed in SACI housing.
SACI apartments are fully furnished and allow students to live independently. All apartments have bathrooms and kitchens, and are fully equipped with stoves, refrigerators, heat, and hot water. SACI apartments differ in style, furnishings and amenities. Although most have been recently renovated, there is no way to standardize student apartments - some are in buildings which date back to the Renaissance and others are only a few decades old. Please note that none of the student apartments have telephones. Students can arrange for private portable cellular phone rentals if their budgets allow.
